Carrier Owned Container (COC)

A container owned or leased by a shipping line – new or used – to transport goods by providing both the container and the transportation service. Carrier owned container, or COC, is the opposite of a shipper owned container, or SOC, and will generate demurrage and detention costs, which an SOC will not.
